Local Joints 4 & 5 | Miami and London

An Argentinian steakhouse and a film shop from another era

After finishing up some Poutine in Montreal, we boarded a flight to Miami to connect with mixed-media artist Typoe.

Far from the glam and glitz of South Beach, we caught up with the Miami native at Fiorito—an Argentinian steakhouse in the Little River / Little Haiti neighborhood.

In a conversation under the hot Florida sun, and the watchful eyes of the late Diego Maradona, Typoe spoke to us about graffiti, the need for gratitude at every turn, and how you should never stop moving forward—no matter what.

Check it out here:

After our steak lunch in Miami we were back on a plane. This time to London to link up with Shaquille-Aaron Keith.

On the outskirts of London, and within the walls of a film shop that takes you back to another time, we met Shaq at the small cinema near the back. There he spoke to us about coming of age in the “ends,” his experience with poetry and painting, and how he - when all is said and done - seeks human connection with his work.

It is one thing to be creative and to have a handle on one medium; it’s another thing entirely to utilize multiple mediums of expression. But, for Shaq, he refuses to accept the barriers or constraints others have laid out for him.

So, we’re definitely not going to put him in one category. He doesn’t believe in that and we see why. Poet, visual artist, designer—guy does it all.

The thing we loved most about Shaq though wasn’t his talent, it’s how he treats others and the bond he has with the shop’s owner, Umit.

A must watch:

Cheers to Miami and London.

That’s it from us for now. Talk from the road.
